The Sumatran Orangutan lives on the island of Sumatra. They are a critically endangered species with roughly 7,300 left in the wild.

A male Sumatran Orangutan grows to about 1.4 meters and weighs about 90 kg. Females however grow to an average height of 90 cm and weight of 45 kg.

Sumatran Orangutans eat fruit, insects, bird eggs, and bark. Female Sumatran Orangutans virtually never touch the ground where as males do so rarely.

The Sumatran Orangutans may be the first Great Apes to become extinct unless people help to protect them.
